Just a thought:

When looking at most threads in the trade section i see a couple of specific units being asked for over and ocer again. On the top of my head theese come to mind:

Ork fighta-bombas
Ork Scorchas

Eldar Revenant Titans
Eldar Void Spinners
Eldar Warp Spiders
Eldar Scorpions
Eldar Vampires

SM Hunters
SM Thunderhawks

Warhounds
Reavers

Chaos Hellblades
Defilers

If someone actually tried to do proxies for theese
there could be some good sales to be done!

It seems that most sculptists are set on creating pharaoes-in-space figures, which i can't see a great demand for.

This is just thought that could be interesting to midel makers...

Hi!

Given the Chapterhouse decision, I would think "use as" or "compatible with" lines would be more feasible now.

Hi!

Alas, if I had anything near the skill of some here, we'd have entire lines of stuff. ;)

On the contrary, I think there is huge demand for Pharoes in Space, and indeed for other races that were never produced by GW in Epic scale. I expect the upcoming Stygian and Sisterhood ranges from Onslaught will go nuts. Rehashing products that have a massive presence in the secondary market on the other hand, seems like a good way to lose money to me. Heck, Warhounds and Reavers were in near continuous production for 20 years! The Chaos items on your list seem legit as they are either un-catered for or rare, the Ork stuff is covered, but most of the rest seem to be readily available or simple to scratch/proxy for.

Give us new stuff that hasn't been done before. Fill niches or update ranges. Rehashing the way of poverty leads.

Well, i base my text on what people actialy bern asking for in the trades section, not what i think would be cool to have.
And in no way have i said that people shouldn't produce Stygians, nuns in armour or Space-egyptians. I'm saying thst the specific units i mentioned are units that most players want in their lists and are dufficult to get a hold of.
High demand and low availability is a good foundation for earning money...

Exodus Wars Small Behemoths are often used as proxies for Chaos / Imperial War hounds and they fly off the shelves. As a result I'll be watching this list intently.

I think a few manufacturers have already had a poke at it. Ben has done some excellent Ork Proxies in his IndieGoGo. Hunters can easily be proxies with Guild tanks.

I'm sure if we put our heads together people could find a decent Thunderhawk proxie.

Just Eldar that is underrepresented. Someone did some amazing Eldar buildings on this forum, I did try to buy them up but negotiation's weren't successful if anyone knows of them then bung a link on this thread, they are great!

Tom, I personally use your stuff as proxies for my AdMech.

What strikes me as most interesting is that noone has made a defiler proxy yet! Heck, even just making the leg portion and let people scratchbuild the rest would probably be a success!

I been self employed for close to 7 years now and I think that I'm starting to get a hang of the entrepeneur side of it now. I see alot of creative potential on this forum but not an equalky matching knowledge of marketing, planning and understanding of the market.

No offense to anyone meant, I'm just saying that if people could match their buisness skills with their awesome modeling/sculpting skills their companies could probably make some more money! :-)

Well, nobody bothers to post in the trading section about models that don't exist, so you have something of an ascertainment bias there :)

Of course there are indeed some "previously in production" models that are particularly needed, but some of the items on your list are already relatively available - what people don't like is having to pay what they think is "too much" for them. There is no guarantee that any proxy produced will be cheap, and it definitely won't be a perfect match. Most of the Eldar stuff you list is relatively uncommon - but even then, only really the new versions of the models. Old scorpions come up all the time on eBay. It's worth bearing in mind that no proxy would exactly match those SG models anyway. The model on your list I think is most needed is the thunderhawk.

Warhounds and reavers are actually pretty common on eBay, I got a few reavers a couple of months ago for less than retail, on separate occasions. FW warhounds sell for about what the metal SG ones sold for when they were in production, and there are good proxies for these already anyway.

I think DRM andrayadas flyers make great hellblade proxies, gzg spiderbots work as defilers, there are two guides out there on making your own defilers, with some creativity you could probably build your own out of sprue and plasticard....

Regarding titans, warhounds and reavers are all over eBay, I've purchased five reavers in the last 6 months and never paid more than 75% RRP even after production stopped.... the EW behemoths are great if you can't find stuff second hand

Eldar are a bit trickier, but not impossible.....

I am glad people are still making 6mm stuff, but IMO what the CAD revolution has done is stop a lot of people learning how to scratchbuild and sculpt their own stuff, its either easier to buy the stuff from someone else, or if you make your own item it isn't as perfect and puts people off, a lot of the guys with scratch built stuff don't post often now and I think a lot of people genuinely don't know what's possible to do yourself

Go have a look through Apoc's project thread or WMN's site to see what you can do with GS and plasticard and if you want a model, make your own! :)

Well, this wasn't a thread about what I'm looking for, it was a suggestion on what kind of models I've seen people asking for.

But, what are we exactly debating here? What kind of models that are in demand? Or if people should provide proxies for in demand models?

The first i can understand, maybe I´m wrong about what models would sell. Haven't done a statistic over it. But the second thing I can't see how we can disagree over. The more availble proxies there is, the easier it is for people to get into epic, the more prices will go down and the more quality sculpts will be made (if the companies want people to buy their proxie model over others). Can anyone state 1 thing that would be bad with making more proxie models??
I really don't understand some of the answers on this thread...

Well it's good to let the model makers know what one may be looking for. Of course, eBay may be an option too, as well as trades here and other sites. And as we all know no one can make those models requested ... only something that could work as "proxies" ... very off doppelgangers ... And as noted some make some pretty good proxies as already mentioned for some of those you're looking for ... And with a little bitz work, say like the old IG Hellhound Mk.1 could make a good "looted" Scorcher ... I've even thought some WWI aircraft bitz'd out could work for Ork aircraft ? Exodus Wars makes some good "Titan" like walkers as goes DRM ... Or how's about an Exodus War Khazari Tunneler walking transport, with Edenite tank turrets ? CinC/PFC makes and is making some Grav Tanks that could work for some Eldar AFVs ...
