I couldn’t say why but the past few days as I’ve been working on my comics (and my Vanguard Marine Legion, around the edges) my brain has turned to doing something in an anime style. Is it the tv I’m watching while I sketch? Is it the heap of unbuilt DP9 Mecha from years past, mocking me from my shelf as mute plastic witness to my complete inability to bow to their angular complexity? Probably a little of both. Attachment: So I followed my whim and began doing a little groundwork for something with a definite anime flavor. These are the first units of the JGSDF National Readiness Force, preparing to repel an attack on the city of Megasaki in the year 21XX. Tanks are from NCE via shapeways and have a really sharp “anime” look. Infantry as always is from O8. I aimed for soft colors with a cel shaded look to the edging. I think it works! There are Grav tanks, and of course, Mecha in the works. BIG ones. and to fight them, there are even BIGGER ones! What’s an anime style game if you can’t go over the top, says I? |

I don’t know yet. If I take it to the club, it will either be Horizon Wars or Samurai Robits Battle Royale. If I solitaire it, it may be Mekton Z: The Movie with some culled out infantry rules, or perhaps the old Heavy Gear 2E rules with some custom weaponry. |

What's your opinion on Horizon Wars? Would it work without mechs? |

We frequently play without mechs and do a fine job of it. To a certain gamer it sometimes plays BETTER without mechs because of the general equivalency between mechs and conventional units on a cost basis, since Command resources can buff a well-organized conventional force very effectively. |

And finally, a selection of Battling Seizure Robits themselves! Clockwise from right, a C-12C Combat Chassis, a Type 4 Think Tank, and a "Taisho" Class Battle Titan, all from the JSDF Major Crisis Response Unit (Division 24), seconded to the National Readiness Force. Attachment: From DP9 and The Ion Age. Spreading the word on that one, actually - the left arm is a replacement they sent me (in the United States, no less!) when I dropped the original down a sink drain. Special thanks to Gavin Syme at The Ion Age for that one! What a class act that whole company is! |
