Finally have a scheme I'm happy with for part of my Planetary Ops game set. This one is from the United States of Western Europe and is the 44e Régiment de Cuirassiers, also known as the "Régiment de Fer" or "Iron Regiment." The sobriquet is a misnomer - they're far bigger than a regiment, more like a short Division, with a full brigade of armor and an expanded Mechanized Infantry brigade.

Mech Infantry in Planetary Ops is based with the carrier, and this is the result. I like it a lot - feels like a modernized version of the "Kriegsspiel."

Great job! It'd be nice to see your entire force when it's finished. :)

O8 is doing some great things these days, and also expanding their sci fi lines, as well. The IFV above, is from National Cheese Emporium on Shapeways, by the way. Both have a very gritty and "realistic" look to them, very Near-Future Sci Fi. If you go the SHapeways route, avoid the temptation to get Frosted Extreme Detail - I bought some in FXD when it was briefly on sale, and I can see no difference between it and Frosted Ultra Detail except the price tag.

I am really looking forward O8s 'oldschool' scifi vehicles.
They alredy released Hermannus tank, but they also posted picture of artillery pieces based on the same hull.

I think we are experiancing the beginning of great times for 3mm scifi, I really hope it will get popular

The level of detail is way up and the price point is super attractive compared to a lot of larger scales. I doubt it’ll supplant scales like 6mm or larger but it definitely has a great place for itself and ranges like O8, Vanguard and the upcoming Microworld/NCE partnership are really producing a wide range of options that are all very exciting! And the real advantage is that you can play lots of armies and styles for very little commitment.

I am seeking a great way to play with friends that arent so keen on learning the rules, so I am really excited for Vanguard's game. 3mm brings a lot of possibilities and I hope I will soon explore the world of 3mm.
Ibwouls like to see quick, small and fun game system that can be played on very small tables. That's why I prefer to have my stuff based on smaller bases and I prefer single model single base theme.
Maybe I will be able to sevelop my won rules ;)

BTW What rules do you use? How many miniatures thr game require and how long does it usually take?
Or you are just collecting and painting stuff as I do and have noone to play against ;-;

Really it works for any game. I play Epic Armageddon at basically 1:1. I play Dirtside II, as well, converting inches to centimeters on a 1”=1cm conversion, which plays super well on a 24x36” space. I’ve also played some great games of Horizon Wars at 3mm scale. And for the Régiment de Fer, I’m setting it up for the game Planetary Operations. All my units tend to be individually based, just because I like the look but I’ve seen a lot of very attractive diorama bases with multiple vehicles and infantry on them, too. So it ya a ton of possibilities.

Well the problem is I haven't really played Epic Armageddon and it os quite hard to learn the game just by reading. I love the modeling aspect, so I alredy have quite big Ork army and I am gatherin Guard right now. I love 6mm, but I dont really play it. I still think WH40k in 6mm would work quite well, but again, I need to learn the rules :/
Damn it, why I have to live in the middle of nowhere.

Well I think 3mm scale is just right for your kind of situation because it let’s you build both sides of a battle for a reasonable sum and to play in a reasonable space. In fact ive been thinking of getting a custom ruler marked at 1/2 centimeter intervals for playing the game at smaller size.

For solo play at small scale and with smaller boards, I highly recommend Dirtside II and Horizon Wars. They work well(especially HW) with a very low figure density. HW in particular can play a very satisfying game with a half dozen pieces per side.

I am reading Horizon Wars currently. Did you change the measurments?

From my few games of HorizonWars, my expectation is ranges would actually be more “realistic” in 3mm than 6mm, so i wouldn’t change them.

In HW ranges are kind of scale-independent so you could do either as space permitted. I’ve played some good games at 3mm scale in inches on a 4x8 space, and it was closest to “real” aspect I’ve yet had. But it also works in centimeters on a 3x3 space.
