The U.S. Colonial Marines are heading down to Linna 349 to link up with British and African forces outside New Harare. Radicals have seized the city (and the PAC Armory there!) and are now threatening a number of Weyland-Yutani installations on the surface. The Pan-African Conglomerate, having had a long and profitable trade relationship with the United Americas and the UK, has called for help, and the USCMC is heading in.

This is a small side project, not anything like the tour-de-force 3mm 40K minis that are my main go-to at the moment. But while I was working a boatload of overtime the past month or so, this idea just got stuck in my mind and so I dug out some of the not-Aliens figs from my Lead Stock and painted them up. Pretty happy with the outcome! I am, as ever, torn between Strike Legion Tactical and Dirtside II for rules to use - DS2 is my go-to but may not really model the dynamics of dropship-borne combat the way I mean it to. SL:T is very flexible but might be a tad too complicated - we'll see.

I do lean towards SL:T at the moment because of its ability to model Xenomorphs... who knows what Weyland-Yutani is REALLY up to on Linna 349. It only takes one containment breach to wreck a planet, and in times of insurrection, anything may happen...

Thanks, guys! I'm already working on some British forces with armored hovercraft and powered armor, and PAC troops with field guns and some defensive works - I'm taking inspiration from what I have in my lead stock and seeing what I can do without buying new forces. The British troops, for example, are going to have on-call Excalibur kinetic-strike satellites for artillery support - mainly because I don't have any mobile artillery figures for them (none on hover platforms, anyway). Whereas, the insurgents just got access to Changsha-IV artillery rockets because I dug up a few sci-fi MLRS tanks from my stock. It's kind of fun to do things catch-as-catch-can like this.

I admit I did buy a few packs of NATO Infantry to use as Colonial Marines, since they had a very convincing Smartgunner proxy in there. But mostly I’m sticking to the pile as it is to see what I can do with what I have already.

Any progress on these? If there was a decent Alien sculp in 3mm I suspect I'd get couple of platoons.

Yeah real life has trumped game time so no progress lately. However there are good Alien sculpts at scale from O8. A warrior and a queen in fact.

I have the 08 alien warrior (but not the queen) but it is more like a 6mm model than a 3mm one and there is only a single pose: https://www.magistermilitum.com/scale/3 ... s-x15.html

I have wondered how the Khurshan 6mm aliens would work, nice scuplts and variation. However, they look big from the pictures, so I suspect would not be ideal for 3mm either. http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/6m ... demons.jpg

Multi pose 3mm bugs (and not just Giger esque ones) would soon get my wallet open...

Yeah the Space Demons line is fantastic but as you note, 6mm and it's very apparent. A 3mm option is what interested me from an availability perspective. :)

So I did a little something in the five minutes between things today. These bad boys are M75 "Westmoreland" heavy battle tanks of the U.S. Colonial Army - not yet properly based, of course. If you think the war on Linna 349 is confined to the Colonial Marines you're mistaken. Distinguished by the yellow flashes, these main battle tanks, too large for transport by even the heaviest Marine dropcraft, are from the First Cav, the vanguard unit of the USCA forces on Linna 349.

After six weeks of intense fighting around New Harare, the Marines took the main air station, allowing superheavy "Montana" Class ISSCV landers to begin bringing down the heavier equipment and full battalions of Colonial Army forces. Unfortunately, by then, the Chinese, under the cloak of a Three Nations Alliance mandate, also began a major intervention, and Russian Confederation Spetsnaz troops showed up in raids along Highway 9. The arrival of First Cav heavy tanks like these brought the war into a new phase of heavy fighting as the front line moved away from New Harare and towards Port Nyrere.

These minis are from the excellent new line from Microworld.

Little crossover to my own game universe, the US Colonial Army is going to have a role to play in an intervention on Mars, I think. Either way the First Cav unita are coming together very nicely.
