I have been looking to make an Imperial Guard force (well... Imperial Army, technically) for years, to follow on my 3mm scale Space Marines. I looked at all kinds of World War II and Cold War figures that would suit the idiom but none were quite what I was looking for. But wouldn't you know that javelin98 of the National Cheese Emporium answered my pleas for a set of picoscale proxies!

I ordered some up but alas, because of the Independence Day holiday in the U.S., I don't expect to see these before next week. But going from his work to date these are certain to be what I'm looking for!

Picoarmor is supplying the rest, in the way of Imperial soldiers:

Commissars and Commanders (appropriately waving edged weapons):

And I checked the scale and wouldn't you know that the current Talos Syndicate walkers are the exact size of a Reaver titan at 3mm scale? I even bought some extra Hera missile turrets to mount on their backs to complete the proxification:

I'm finally giving in and working with NetEA. Much as I like the older system the unit cards are just too rigid and the IG structure too arcane. I'm basing the Saturnine Hoplites (predictably) on a Minervan Tank Legion army list - I'm a tread-head at heart. This sets up some nice battles on Mars, as well as Venus and even Terra. I chose the Saturnine Hoplites because they are so mysterious as to be nearly unknown. We know they were once part of an independent polity that joined the Empire peacefully, and that they fought on the Loyalist side in the Schism of Mars and the Battle of Terra - possibly other engagements as well. But beyond that, they're lost to history.

Mmm. Just my speed!

Going to be an interesting summer project!

Seriously, though - great job on these! And though I'll be lobbying for a series of 3mm scale Weather/knife superheavy tanks and expanded artillery in the future (because I'm a nutcase) you've given me enough to keep busy for quite a good while already! Superb work all around, and thank you for being so willing to dive in head first on a hobbyist's whim!

Something better than two battalions of armor arrived last night, and have been trimmed from their sprues. They are now bathing gently in SimpleGreen in preparation for priming, as soon as the weather is dry enough to spray them. Tomorrow, perhaps?

My assessment: 3mm fans of NetEA, buy tons! They look great!

Well, they came out of the degreaser, and after a little working over with pipe cleaners and an old electric toothbrush, they're getting ready for priming. I expect a window of about eight hours of low humidity this afternoon, which will be perfect.

In the meantime, here is the raw resin, drying in the sun. I also understand this can help tighten up the resin, which is UV-cure. The detail is excellent, but with the "Frosted" Material it's hard to get a good idea of them without primer on. Anyway, here we are:

The whole force there - Clear Resin on White Paper Towel is not optimal viewing, but still. You get the idea. A lot of variety in this force:

A closeup of some of my favorites, the Hellhounds. Much maligned but high on style, and very handy in an Urban setting. You can also see the Deathstrike missiles, Medusa mortars, a trio of Leman Russ Vanquishers up top, and some Chimeras, ready for the troops to board up for combat.

For a line of miniatures that never existed before like a month ago, i don't see how I could ask for more!

Infantry-wise, I've already based up a Mechanized Company's worth of troops, including their Company Captain and Commissar - more on them later. The idea is that the Hoplites Armored Regiment here would be mostly tanks, with mechanized infantry to follow through and hold objectives, or dismount at advantageous points to protect the flanks. Not sure how sound it is from a "Tactica" standpoint but it appeals to my sense of Sci Fi.

Here's some better photos - primer took perfectly. Had a great afternoon for spray painting.

You can get a much better view of the detail on these with some primer on them: Destroyer Tank Hunters, with Leman Russ tanks behind (plus Leman Russ Executioners in the middle there - note the Plasma Cannons!)

A quick color test on some spares. The yellow and grey is speaking to me, but I also like the yellow and brown. The green and brown is a little too typical - and better for a "jungle" regiment.

Thanks, guys! I went with the Grey and Gold, and am saving the Red-Brown for the Deimos Militia, who will be a Siege Regiment I plan to do later. The models are a dream to paint, and really point up the detail remarkably well! Fabulous little tanks!

Today is "Comics Day," but I hope to have the first Armored Company ready in a few days!
