Must agree with jimmy here the flexible army lists allowed you to use whatever you had to hand in your collection all the other versions required you to have certain numbers of models to create legal formations.

I like flexibility and the option to create unique formations was a great draw for me.

The flexibility is what is drawing me in, even if the other systems do have their good points.

Oh since I didn't actually answer the OP:
All of them. No, seriously. They all have something to offer. Epic is mega kick ass because you get 4 games for one set of models.

Thanks guys for an interesting debate. I didn't realise there were so many versions of Epic and such strong advocates of each! :-)

Epic's been around a long time each version has it's fans as you say which is why really there is no single definitive version you should play. Try them all out and choose the version that suits you. :)

Hi!

Yup, try them all.

Also, you need not select just one. You may like more than one.

Enjoying epic is the main thing. :)

With only a little work it's possible to have your collection cover multiple editions. Definitely worth it, if you can.

I have separate armies of the same race for EACH edition.

In other words, I don't mix my AT/SM1 Rogue looking Eldar with my SM2/TL ones, anymore than bring my Epic 40k ones into the mix.

I am just a stickler to keeping within the look and atmosphere of the time period of the game I guess.

But I also try not to keep large armies of any either. Just enough to have a good sized game.

Hi!

If I ever tried this at the scale I do things the earth's mantle would crack. ;D

For the good the earth I'll just do one system. ;)

I think we have settled on Net Epic or Space Marine 2 with a d few NE tweaks. I also found out a bunch of other locals prefer NetEpic so that is cool.

I'm not sure about collecting armies for each version! I prefer the SM/NE world and units more as thats what I remember from playing 40K Rogue Trader. I looked at EA and it seems more in tune with GWs current 40K systems which I'm not that keen on.

That's right, SM2 uses the Rogue Trader universe, E40k uses the 40k 2e universe and EA uses the 40k 3e+ universe.

It's interesting that you connect your Rogue Trader interest to SM2/NetEpic. I prefer E40k and 40k 2e is definitely "the" 40k universe for me.

So basically GW has been trendy, designing stuff in parallel universes . . . :)
Makes one wonder which universe they are currently in . . . :D
