Moving to the start of the year would probably make sense now, given that shift that happened already this year (moving from a summer start to a spring start) – might as well just match the TOEG year to the calendar year.

Would welcome any other thoughts on this though, especially as my involvement with TOEG dropped off pretty sharply after a couple of months this time around … although i am aiming for a a late comeback with 800pts this months.

Thoughts, opinions, future of TOEG etc, how much interest is there in a Jan 2013
as the 'formal' start?

Hm good point, if it helps could always set January as the planning month, formal start Feb, with a bit of bleed between the two as usual.

What are the general no-go spraying months for those with colder winters?
(no offence elsmore, but i'm not counting Godalming in there ;D )

I've made a tentative start to a chaos army, which could form the foundation of a TOEG2013 given I've not done too much yet. I've been hesitant over the whole model issue recently which is why my 2012 efforts have gone unshown.

From now till March it's quite dark here during the day, so it's almost impossible to take decent photos wiith natural light.

Would be tempted to begin 2013 with a new army/project log ^_^

I understand people having various issues depending where they life but an annual project makes most sense to me if it's based on the calendar year.

I vote for a January start too - perhaps allowing the first month or two for planning, construction, warm-up etc etc? On another wargaming board they run a Tale of Painters thread where you get two months of the year as 'jokers' - should IRL circumstances, weather, lack of daylight, alien invasion etc get in the way of your painting, you can play a 'joker' and still count as completing the project. They use two months because they set a target of 50 points painted in a year (Warmachine/Hordes models), 5 points a month over 10 months. Maybe that kind of idea could work here too? I know people don't always take a whole year to complete - my next project is planned over 9 months, using the 500pt/month target from this year. Just some thoughts.

They do the same thing on warseer, ~200 points per month over 12 months with two jokers for when real life gets in the way....

I'm happy with a January Start, now my guard are largely done I can get into the groove with a totally different army without having to come to a screeching halt to paint more tanks when a tournament looms.....

I'd like to paint an Epic army and a January start sounds good. I have claimed I'd take part for the last 3 or so years and painted nothing whatsoever, so take that with a pinch of salt...

I have a load of recently cleaned up models I'm in the process of pinning and gluing together for a change (many were Man of Kents complaints about armies of blu-tacked together armies falling apart in transit and game) and I was planning on doing some painting soon anyway, so fingers crossed.

And once again, after the nth failure, I'll e in on this. I won't even try to define which army - anything goes.

If it is open to non-epic miniature painting, I will join in the next one.

I have WHFB and/or Warmaster and/or Full Thrust to paint well before another Epic project :P

If you settle for January, I'll do it this time. My Tyranids are so close to being finished, I can finally give the Chaos Gods the attention they rightfully deserve.

Looking pretty good for January then, with Jan as a optional planning/prep or starting month depending on personal preferences and situations.

I'm inclined to agree with MrGonzo: despite seasonal limits in some areas it probably does make sense overall to just sync with the calendar year. Especially as TOEG seems to have relatively low North American participation from what I can tell. Scots and people in Nordic countries might just have to crank the ISO up for a couple of months and undercoat in the bathroom*, or just start a bit later.

That would cut TOEG12 short three months, but makes more sense moving forwards.

This has come up before with mixed response I think. I don't mind other 6mm systems coming in, especially as the 6mm sub-forum on taccom is now '6mm' not 'Epic 6mm'. Taccom has a small community to start with, so excluding warmmaster because it is not the one true scale-genre that is 6mm sci-fi seems a little pointless. I'd be considering doing microworld 6mm fantasy myself. WHFB and 40k 28/32mm, not so sure, hmmm … :-\ :D

Any new thoughts on the scope of TOEG – 10mm, historicals, 28mm, etc?
edit: and if you do have strong views on any restrictions, is it more in terms of scale (e.g. only 6mm) or in terms of genre (e.g. no historicals)?
