I haven't painted the ones you are asking about, but I like how my pink ogres came out. And then my red lizardmen with a blue ink wash came out really nice too.

Love the red skin with the cool blue armor for the lizzies. If I didn't already paint up a ton of them I would go for a similar scheme. Thanks. People and monsters I don't have any problem picking colors. Even for mecha and spaceships, I pick colors pretty quickly. But I've spend 3-4 days trying to... |

Some 6mm "red lizards"--I decided to feature these in the sci-fi RPG I'm running. The lizards with the mounts are from Microworld. F-stops around 5 or so worked pretty well. The lizards with sci-fi guns are from CinC PFC. 6mm paints from Perfect 6 (barriers) and Ground Zero Games (skimmers... |

I use tissue for the transparent part. I have some transparent plastic but they're too transparent. I think it's the flashlights being too focused it shines through the tissue. I'll experiment but natural light beats battery power.<snip> Try some cloth outside the tissue, maybe? Maybe t-shirts or s... |

There are non tactical flashlights? :D I think I got this. Black background is very nice and vibrant but white background looks more representative of the actual miniature. Taken outside without additional lighting. Indoor ambient light is too dark so any light I shine on the box cast a shadow. Use... |

I used 1 light on each side, but they're not the same brightness. They were outside pointing at the box. I used flashlights because that's what I had, they create a good shadow I'll try again when there is sun. Unless they are the uber tactical flashlights (hundreds of lumens) they probably aren't ... |

My first attempt using lightbox. Same lights setup, 2 lights from the sides. Black and white background Super Macro mode + cropped. Normal mode was very grainy, not enough light? Taken at night, maybe I should wait for daytime. P5160018.jpg Black background looks too bright. P5160020.jpg How were t... |

OK. I had the f-stop stuff backwards. I need a deeper field (focusing wider front to back) which is a higher f-stop. I used aperture priority mode for this (f-stop around 6) and tweaked the exposure to fit the minis. I played around a bit without my light tent and got really good results, but such a... |

I did more reading and figured that maybe increasing the F-stop would help. This increases the depth of field (the range that is "in focus") and helps the camera focus on the 6mm minis. This also requires a bipod, as the shutter is open longer. I tested with a couple sets of minis without ... |

New 6mm paints. I set the camera on aperture priority. With the black background I had to reduce the exposure. This is using Vallejo color wash, which is a bit lighter than the Reaper inks.

Echoco, thanks for the responses on the 3D modeling and printing. I'm in the US so Shapeways is good for me. We've used Shapeways twice--for the same shape. Little lab vial racks with places for magnets for doing work with DNA and RNA are silly expensive, like $200-300 each. We printing a couple at ... |
