I don't think it ever made it to a FAQ, but there was talk about it 10 years ago: https://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?p=444872#p444872 Well according to Neal’s post in that thread , he did present a FAQ that was framed in response to this general question, while answering the spec...

And this risk to the embarked formation is why this tactic is performed at the end of a turn . . .

FWIW, this all resulted from “the eternal air assault” way back when E:A had just been produced. Originally the THawk and Terminators landed, assaulted, and then the Termies consolidated back into the THawk to rinse and repeat the following turn - much too powerful. So, this ruling was created immed...

An alternative, if somewhat time-consuming approach, is to use earth magnets to attach some small parts of the titan equivalent to the number of shields.

FWIW Dave (having not played for years), I have a similar recollection to yours from way back. ⋅ In the simple case, defending ground units fire on attacking aircraft making a ground attack before the ground attack takes place. These ‘flak attacks’ are made if the enemy a/c have passed wit...

My club (CLWC) has been meeting back at the Escape in central London for several weeks, but under severely restricted circumstances. Whilst things may still change, I suggest that the new ‘rules’ will still impact, and so may modify the number of tables and hence the maximum number of players. You m...

I may be mis-remembering the master FAQ and various conversations around 2012. Part of the problem at the time was that this particular FAQ was put in 3.3 war engine assaults, which made it hard to find. Either way, we agree you need a second transport to pick up the victors, and the “pickup” transp...

So you could activate or withdraw a unit onto a landed THawk, or even consolidate onto a different THawk, and all THawks would be able to disengage that turn. i don’t think this interpretation is right Dave. Consolidation prevents any transport from disengaging, irrespective of whether the assault ...

Hi Deb, this question confused me too when I started way back. The “consolidation errata” to 4.2.5 was added to stop the marine player from using a single transport to fly in, dismounting troops to assault a target, consolidating the troops back onto the transport and disengaging to repeat the same ...

Have you tried Richardl’s alternative scoring system? It is similar to your suggestion. I believe it may have been used for one game per tournament in the UK to mitigate this exact dilemma, but without nerfing particular armies too greatly.

As I recall, there was a discussion over whether the formation needed to activate each turn. The answer was “no”, it didn’t need to activate to remain on OW, but would need to activate if it needed to do something different during the following turn. However it seems that the E-UK committee agreed w...

Reducing A/c to contesting rather than capturing an objective when they land was introduced years ago to answer this particular dilemma. It diminishes the potential impact that A/c have on the game, and has been deemed adequate for a long time when compared to similar strategies like a single unit c...

Neal has already ruled on this in the 2012 FAQ; Section 1.10: Overwatch Q: Can a unit remain on Overwatch into a following turn? A: If the Formation hasn't fired by the end of the turn, then they can remain on Overwatch into the following turn. Note, in order to achieve this the formation effectivel...
