The renders may look good but actual prints usually have layer lines on them even in FUD and HDA.
FUD is brittle while HDA is more soft and flexible or almost as brittle depending on how well it was cured.

Good for custom minis but not really for an entire army.

I use tissue for the transparent part. I have some transparent plastic but they're too transparent. I think it's the flashlights being too focused it shines through the tissue. I'll experiment but natural light beats battery power.<snip> Try some cloth outside the tissue, maybe? Maybe t-shirts or s...

There are non tactical flashlights? :D I think I got this. Black background is very nice and vibrant but white background looks more representative of the actual miniature. Taken outside without additional lighting. Indoor ambient light is too dark so any light I shine on the box cast a shadow. Used...

I used 1 light on each side, but they're not the same brightness.
They were outside pointing at the box.
I used flashlights because that's what I had, they create a good shadow
I'll try again when there is sun.

My first attempt using lightbox.
Same lights setup, 2 lights from the sides.
Black and white background Super Macro mode + cropped.
Normal mode was very grainy, not enough light? Taken at night, maybe I should wait for daytime.

Black background looks too bright.

FXD is as brittle as FUD and the slight increase in detail isn't worth the price in crease. for 6mm or maybe up to 15mm FUD is good enough. HDA is Black High Definition Acrylate. It's almost as good as FUD in details, a little more flexible, much more suited to humanoids but takes a lot more to opti...

For dead trees, twigs would be the first thing I go to.
Will need a good cleaning and sealing before painting so you don't get anything growing out of them later.

Thanks for the suggestions and the link. The images in the original post were taken using the crop method. I feel they're not as sharp as super macro. I should do a proper experiment and compare super focus and cropping. That's a lot of things I'll have to explore. Also sounds like I need to study h...

Yeah, the camera is a digital camera but the focus box when in super macro mode is really small about the size of the base in your attached image. Anything outside that box is blurry. For now I am quite happy with bracing my hands on a stack of books. But I have also been thinking about a light box ...

I was going to do all gray but wanted to try something different, it should be easier to paint lighter gray over these.
Going to do all gray for the male version.

Bracing onto something really is much better, thanks all.

I'll try bracing against a chair or something first.
I noticed camera shake most when I'm trying to press the button, the button is pretty heavy.

Thanks for the tips. Figured out where the Macro function is. These are a little better, still suffering from shaky hands so only these were clear enough. Of all the prints the lower part of the backpacks were the lease consistent some printed well others missing whole section. They were based on a ...
