Just adding that I've had a little rummage through the rest. There's also another eldar avatar (the other 2nd edition version) and three of the Greater Demons: Bloodthirster, Lord of Change, and Keeper of secrets. I'll edit those into the original post.

Hi folks, After over a decade off I've recently got back into wargaming via 40k. I'm currently torn between "get back into Epic" versus "sell Epic to make money/space for more 40k", and the decision mostly rests on what I can get for the Epic minis. Any advice on what the followi...

I use the 2008 handbook, and land raiders at 350 points for 4 are worth it, especially en masse and supporting each other (e.g. 3 formations on the flank, if anyone steps up to shoot one formation, the others will cream them). That much RA leaves your opponent very short on MW and TK. I suspect I wo...

You know, the 40k universe always struck me as sci-fi themed WWII anyway :)

I mean, super-soldiers fly half way across the galaxy just to land on a planet and get in a fist fight? Makes a lot more sense if you replace spaceships with ships.

Quote: (Jeridian @ Jan. 11 2010, 23:01 ) Ouch, 2 Barge armies- that's a game wasted, on the plus side you could get a dozen games in an hour. Myself and a regular opponent used the Birthday's thing a few times, it worked out I could go first 2-3 months of the year and was promptly ignored as Je...

I think GW's main problem with epic is that it competes with 40k. If you can put together a large epic army for €100-€200 (ok, maybe you need a little more cash now...), you may decide not to spend the best part of €1000 on a 40k army. Edit to add: This was in response to Legate's ...

Quote: (Evil and Chaos @ Dec. 09 2009, 13:39 ) I agree there could be some choice differences though they would be fairly rare IMO, but in either case I prefer an impartial "rules allocate" rather than the more adversarial, and dare I say it, "gamey" style of the attacker allocating. Sorry, did...

There will sometimes be differences between "attacker chooses" and this convention (which I always assumed was the way to play) - suppose you have a unit of 4 terminators, 4 land raiders getting hit by 4 lance and 4 normal hits. I'm sure someone else can come up with a better example where the units...

I would note that a horde of land raiders can be quite effective - close to unbreakable unless you concentrate fire from multiple formations on them (or one very powerful one), reasonably fast and shooty. Garrisoned devs (with dreadnaughts ) are good too, threatening a good portion of the board with...
